Peter Cox cup: Honouring Louise Quelch as the outstanding Member of the Year 2023

Every year we ask our membership to submit nominations for ‘Member of the Year’; to recognise their contribution onstage or offstage.

We always receive many nominations – testament to our wonderful membership, but there was one person that stood head and shoulders above the rest this year. Congratulations to the talented yet unassuming, warm, caring and dedicated Louise Quelch! Member of the Year 2023.

There are so many reasons Louise was nominated, but to summarise from amongst those submitted: “Louise is a true team player who takes on multiple roles but without fanfare“. “Louise has been with the society for many years in both principal and chorus roles, but also always supporting behind the scenes“. “She just quietly gets on with what’s needed, even the thankless tasks“. “Louise is a huge asset to the Sainsbury Singers“.

"I love being part of The Sainsbury Singers, as it’s like a second family. I joined in 2009 for Beauty and the Beast, playing an enchanted spoon. It was such a magical show and still one of my favourites.

The society is full of so many talented, dedicated people that make the shows happen - I definitely don’t feel like I deserved it, but I’m touched to have won member of the year"
Louise Quelch
Member since 2010

Louise received the Peter Cox cup at our recent AGM; formerly the Bobby Ladkin cup. Bobby was a mainstay of the society for over 50 years and donated and then presented the cup for some time. When this no longer had space for new names it transitioned to Peter, another long-term stalwart of the society, to continue the tradition. Predictably Louise was completely taken aback, but also thrilled and flattered to have been chosen.

Congratulations Louise, thoroughly deserved!
